Ian Happ is the Chicago Cubs’ number one minor league prospect. He’s been playing in the Arizona Fall League on the Cubs’ affiliate Mesa Solar Sox along with the Cubs’ number two prospect Eloy Jimenez. Both players started in the AFL Championship game today in Scottsdale, Arizona.
So far in today’s game, Happ is 4-for-4 with 3 runs, 4 RBI including a single, a double, a 2-run home run and a solo home run.
In the bottom of the third inning, Ian absolutely crushed a 2-run shot deep over the right field wall, showing off his powerful swing and growing plate discipline. If he keeps this up, he could end up in Chicago sooner rather than later. Of course, with the Cubs talented, young roster, it’s hard to imagine whose place he takes but there’s no question this guy is trending towards the big league roster soon.
